Abstract:

This thesis presents the design, analysis, and verification of a single-stage single-switch AC/DC PFC converter topology. The proposed converter integrates a buck-boost pre-regulator and a forward converter that includes a voltage doubler with a single power switch. By utilizing passive diode switching and voltage division on the DC link at the input side, the proposed topology can operate at a high duty cycle. It provides superior output voltage regulation and reduced current stress. The converter is designed to operate in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) to obtain a high-power factor. A 120 W at 120 V prototype is built, and experiments are conducted and analyzed.
