Özyeğin University Faculty Member Prof. Mehmet Arık Elected to Fellow Status by the National Academy of Inventors

Prof. Mehmet Arık, a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and founder of the Research, Development, Training and Application Laboratory for Energy Efficient LED Lighting Technologies (EVATEG) at Özyeğin University, has been elected to the rank of prestigious Fellow status by the National Academy of Inventors, NAI. The NAI is a member organization comprising distinguished universities, governmental agencies, and non-profit research institutions primarily based in the United States, with over 4,600 individual members, including Fellows, Senior Members, and Chapter Members, affiliated with more than 300 institutions worldwide.

The NAI was founded in 2009 at the University of South Florida to recognize and encourage inventors with U.S. patents, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, promote the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and to create wider public understanding of how its members’ inventions benefit society. Each year, more than 1,500 academicians holding high value added patents are nominated for the prestigious Fellow status. In 2023, only 160 academicians were honored with this distinction. Among the honorees in 2023, Prof. Arık distinguished himself as the sole Turkish academician to receive this distinction. Newly elected NAI Fellows, including Prof. Arık, will receive their awards during the 13th Annual Conference of the National Academy of Inventors, which will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina, US on June 18, 2023.

Boasting an impressive portfolio of over 110 patents, Prof. Mehmet Arık has made substantial contributions in diverse domains from LED lighting systems, energy and defense technologies to medical and electronic systems. Notably, Prof. Arık has developed more than 10 patents under the umbrella of EVATEG, which he founded at Özyeğin University in 2013.
