Professor Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç from Özyeğin University has been awarded the Prestigious 2023 Elsevier/JQSRT Michael I. Mishchenko Medal

Professor Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç, the Founding Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Energy, Environment, and Economy Center (EÇEM/CEEE) at Özyeğin University, has been honored with the prestigious Michael I. Mishchenko Medal by the international scientific journal JQSRT (Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer), published by Elsevier, for his outstanding contributions to the journal and the concepts of light scattering. He is the first academic from Türkiye to receive this prestigious honor. Professor Mengüç received the award at the gala dinner during the 10th International Symposium on Radiative Transfer (RAD-23), held between June 12 and 16, 2023, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The Michael I. Mishchenko Medal is administrated by the Editorial Board of JQSRT. The selection committee consists of two Editors-in-Chief of JQSRT and three distinguished members of the JQSRT community. Scientists from all around the world can be nominated for this prestigious medal. Named after Michael I. Mishchenko, a former editor of the JQSRT journal and a senior researcher at NASA Goddard Institute in New York who passed away in 2020, this prestigious medal is awarded to researchers and scientists who have achieved groundbreaking and innovative success in the fields of radiative transfer, light scattering, and remote sensing and have significantly contributed to the research communities in these areas.
