Prof. Dr. Mengüç Receives “Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award” from Purdue University

Prof. Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç, Director of the Center for Energy, Environment and Economy and a faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Özyeğin University, has been honored with the 2020 Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award given by the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, USA. Prof. Dr. Mengüç will be presented his award during a special ceremony to be organized at Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus in the 2020-2021 Spring semester.

Every year, Purdue University recognizes alumni who have demonstrated excellence in industry, academia, governmental service, or other endeavors related to mechanical engineering with its Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award. The Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards given by the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue. To date, 285 alumni out of over 30,000 Mechanical Engineering graduates of Purdue University at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD. levels have been recognized with this award.

Prof. Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç obtained his BS and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University (METU), in Ankara, Turkey. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, Indiana, USA in 1985.

In 1999, Prof. Dr. Mengüç was elected as an honorary member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He was assigned as the Turkish Delegate to European Framework programs on the Energy Commission for the years between 2010 and 2016.   He received the “Faculty Excellence Award for Information Transfer” and the “Faculty Excellence Award” for Research from Özyeğin University in 2014 and 2015, respectively. In 2016, he was elected to the Turkish Science Academy. In 2018, Prof. Dr. Mengüç was honored with the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award, which is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards in Mechanical Engineering. Under his leadership, the Center for Energy, Environment and Economy (CEEE) at Özyeğin University has recently received two important national recognitions: the 2019 Efficiency Award was presented to CEEE by the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology in 2019, and the Energy Efficiency Award was presented by the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Chamber of Commerce in Istanbul in early 2020.
